Applications are now open for the 2024/25 Athena Foiling Pathway
The Athena Pathway has opened applications for the 2024/2025 Athena Foiling Pathway, continuing its mission to create an accessible training and development route into foiling sailing in the UK.
Following its successful launch in 2023, the programme for the upcoming season will expand to include dedicated U18, U21, and Women's WASZP squads. This expansion is designed to provide British female and youth athletes with the experiences and opportunities they need to achieve future success in professional foiling racing, with a clear trajectory towards competitions like the Youth & Women’s America’s Cup and SailGP.
The 2024/2025 season will also mark the second year of collaboration with the Andrew Simpson Foundation’s Performance Academy, which will continue to deliver world-class coaching in the one-design foiling WASZP dinghy. UK WASZP distributor Sailingfast will contribute technical expertise and assist in maintaining squad members' boats to racing standards.
The programme will be further enhanced by coached support at key WASZP events throughout the year, including the UK WASZP Nationals and the 2025 WASZP Games in Weymouth. Additionally, the Athena Pathway will provide access to WASZPs for exceptionally promising sailors who do not have their own boat.
2024/2025 will also introduce a ‘train alongside’ scheme aimed at increasing access to sailing for young people from diverse backgrounds across the UK, as well as the continuation of taster sessions for first-time foilers. This initiative underscores Athena Pathway's commitment to inclusivity, equity and broadening participation in the sport.
